Our Top Ten Tips for an Amazing Hot Tub Party

Blog Detail Image

Hosting a hot tub party for your friends and family is a real joy – if you get it right.  We help make sure that your next party is an unforgettable experience, for all the best reasons!  Check out our Top Ten Tips for an amazing hot tub party.

1.  Keep the numbers down

What?  Surely the bigger the crowd the better the party, right?  Actually, not when it comes to your hot tub.  Keep it cozy with your best mates, rather than throw out an open invite on social media.  The biggest mistake we hear of is when some people invite over 20+ guests for a hot tub party.  This can be dangerous if not managed correctly. Your hot tub can only hold a certain amount of people comfortably (typically 5 or 6).  Although it is possible to allow guests to get into the hot tub in shifts, if you want to do this you will need to manage the quality of the water after each shift and checking the water is within safe limits – this might rather get in the way of the party atmosphere!

2.  Set the Theme

Having a theme gives your party an extra element of fun.  Classic hot tub party themes include Beach Party, Pamper Night, Movie Night, Hawaiian night.   This helps give you some direction for garden decorations and the music, food and drink choices as well

3.  It’s all in the preparation

A couple of days before your party, make sure that your hot tub is clean and the water balanced by testing your water and then adding the appropriate chemicals.  It’s important this isn’t left to the last minute before your guests arrive. It’s also a good idea to ask your guests to have showered prior to entering the hot tub.  It might seem awkward to ask, but there’s a good reason for this – if any of your guests are wearing fake tan or body lotions this will contaminate the water and spoil the occasion pretty quickly.  If they are not hot tub owners themselves, it’s unlikely your guests will be aware of this!

4.  Be the best DJ

Don’t leave the tunes to chance!  An awesome playlist can be the difference between a good hot tub party and one that achieves legendary status. Think of  your guests musical tastes, the ambience you want to create and curate the soundtrack that will be the backdrop to your good times.  For safety, don’t trail wires to your home sound system.  Use a wireless, waterproof speaker or connect to the Bluetooth Sound System installed in your spa.  Don’t forget to consider the neighbours – a hot tub with a built-in subwoofer kicks out a lot of bass!

5.  Keep it Clean!

Place a Spa Foot Bath at the bottom of the steps into the hot tub.  This may not be the kind of suggestion you were expecting in order to really get the party started.  But you will thank us for this idea!  Adding a foot bath by the spa will help to keep grass and dust and debris out of your spa water as your guests come and go for snacks, drinks or other essential breaks.  This will help keep your hot tub water as sparkling as your drinks!

6.  Don’t forget the light show

As every party promoter knows, the venue that has it all is the one where the special effects match the tunes.  Many spas include LED lighting as standard, and the Gecko in.Mix lighting system takes your custom light show up another notch.  If your hot tub doesn’t have built-in LED’s, decorate around your tub with waterproof LED’s, or consider our number 1 best-selling party accessory – the Floating LED Underwater Light Show.  This little gadget projects light onto the sides and bottom of your tub.  We love it!

7.  Keep the drinks flowing

Staying hydrated in the hot tub is essential for the health & safety of your guests.  (Tip:  Alcohol in the hot tub will have the opposite effect, so unless your aim is to have inebriated guests with a crushing next-day hangover keep a plentiful supply of non-alcoholic drinks available).  It’s not a good idea to have fragile drinks glasses around water, so we recommend the unbreakable HappyGlass range to accentuate the taste and visual appeal of your drinks.

8.  Will you serve snacks?

Keep Party food where it belongs!  You don’t want your guests to swim in a soup of left-overs and crumbs.  So choose nibbles and snacks that will be low mess.  If you would like your guests to be able to enjoy these in the spa and you have the space, we recommend the very sturdy Bubbles Spa Bar from CaraBarLife (available from our showroom stores).

9.  Keep it fresh

Not everyone loves the smell of chlorine (and if you are experiencing a strong smell of chlorine it indicates a water quality issue – check our chlorine blog for more details).  Adding Spa Aromatherapy Crystals to your hot tub water will fill the air with the delicious scent of your choice.  The excitingly named effervescent Spa Bomb will not only scent the water but fizz away excitingly as they do so.  Make sure you only use Spa safe products, otherwise you may damage your filters and upset the water quality balance.

10. Let the games commence!

If you have a swim spa, you might have enough room for a game of water volleyball.  In most cases something a little more sedate would be more appropriate.  Who doesn’t love a game of cards?  Poker, Black Jack, or Snap!  Our waterproof cards will keep adults of all ages entertained for hours, without crumpling up into a soggy mess.
