Do I need to Refresh my hot tub?
Is your spa really as clean as you think? Maybe not!
But to understand why, you firstly need to know about the real cause of bacterial build up, an industry secret about a foul, slimy substance that lurks unseen on surfaces and in the pipe work and of your spa called Biofilm! In order to thrive, bacteria create a layer of slime in which they shelter, feed and breed. Over time this slime increases in thickness, creating serious additional problems.
Consequently, even high levels of chlorine or bromine can only kill bacteria in the outer layer of an established Biofilm leaving the unharmed bacteria below to continue breeding, typically in hard to reach areas such as pipes and jets.
FACT:
Did you know that 99% of all bacteria live in the Biofilm, just 1% actually live in the water itself and it is only these so called 'free floating' bacteria that we are able to kill with traditional sanitiser such as chlorine or bromine?
Our Spa Refresh service includes a BioFilm Eliminator to help overcome eradicate this problem. Seeing is believing and once you have seen with your own eyes the amount of grime that comes out of the pipes you will be a convert to this service!
Special Requirements for hot tubs in holiday let properties:
If your hot tub is used in a business setting (ie. a holiday let) then there is a legal requirement for these systems to be managed and controlled in proportion to the risk.
You can find detailed requirements and obligations in Health & Safety Executive HSG282.
Inspecting and cleaning the jets and pipework of your hot tub is a requirement of HSG282 (see Table 2 Guidance on inspection and recommended actions).
Using sanitiser in your spa water alone is not sufficient to maintain a clean and safe environment for your pipework. A biofilm eliminator is required to thoroughly clean these areas of your spa system.
