Gritty hot tub walls
One of the problems our water technicians are most frequently asked about goes something like this….
Gritty Hot Tub Walls? Sitting on sandpaper? That’s not the hot tub experience you signed up for! Fortunately our experts can help.
It’s likely that your tap water contain high levels of calcium, so refilling the hot tub with fresh water at this stage would only reintroduce more calcium worsening the problem.
To remove the gritty feeling from the surfaces you will need to artificially lower your water pH level.
The best way of doing this is using a product called ph Minus.
Then you need to lower the water down to pH 6, as measured on your test strips or digital test reader. You need to maintain this pH level for a period of 24 hours.
This will loosen the calcium deposits from the walls.
Following this you will need to run a constant or very frequent filtration cycle in order to gather up the calcium deposits, by washing them into the filter.
After this process you will then need to thoroughly clean your filters after the treatment. We recommend the Estelle Filter Cleaning System as the best mess-free way to do this.
For the health & safety of your bathers, it is very important that no-one uses the hot tub at any stage during this process, and until your water levels are back within the acceptable water quality guidelines.
