Gritty Hot Tub Walls

Date: 20/11/2008

I have a new hot tub that has been filled for about a week now, over the last few days there is a gritty feeling on the walls it's almost like sitting on sandpaper. I don't want to have to empty it already. Can anybody help?

It would seem that your tap water contains high levels of calcium, so refilling the hot tub with fresh water at this stage would only reintroduce more calcium worsening the problem. To remove the gritty feeling from the surfaces you will need to artificially lower your pH level with pH- down to 6 on the tester strips for a 24 hour period this will loosen it from the walls. A constant or frequent filtration cycle will be needed to gather up the calcium deposits washing them into filter. Your filters will need to be cleaned thoroughly after the treatment. Please do not use your hot tub during this process, and until your water levels are within the acceptable guidelines. The use of Spa Scale Away will help to prevent this problem in future.
